Caos on F, Downtown Washington's artist-owned and artist-operated gallery of fine art, crafts and furniture, will feature the work of Tsolmon Damba in its space at 923 F Street NW from November 6 through December 23, 2009. An opening reception will take place on Friday, November 6, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. An artists demonstration will take place at a nearby location on Saturday, November 7 at 3:00 p.m. Tsolmon Damba
Born in Northern Mongolia, Tsolmon is a noted master painter of traditional Mongolian painting and calligraphy. Based in Washington, DC, he has broadened his style and techniques to encompass modern expressions in paint. Collaborating with Caos on F, he has expanded his work to textiles. This show will feature a full breadth of his oeuvre to include traditional work, his famous horse inspired paintings, and the premiere of hand-painted silk panels, the feature of the Caos on Fabric Factory. Caos on Fabric
This fall Caos on F has been exploring the possibilities of adapting the fine art imagery of our artists to the decorative arts application of hand-painted fabric. Working at 1228 Blagdon Alley, dubbed the Caos on Fabric Factory, the results have been impressive for the first attempts on a new medium. Working "outside the frame" and in large scale, participant artists developed sympathetic techniques to translate their designs to he "new" medium of silk, linen and cotton. This First Friday event is the premier viewing of the results of the month long, intensive workshop, a breakthrough happening, born from our dedication and commitment to collaboration amongst our artists. The potential of producing unique environments created with the goal of bringing order to your surroundings has been greatly expanded with the launch of what will become our newest product line. Participant artists include Tsolmon Damba, Chul Beom Park, Madelline Shinn, Lisa Gutierrez, Cherie Lester, Quint Marshall, Mary Bakota and Michael Berman. Caos on Fabric Demonstration
Mr. David Bell has been extremely gracious in providing us with the facility to advance our concept. Bell Architects, The James Renwick Alliance (JRA) and Caos on Fabric will be hosting a reception on Saturday, 7 November from 1:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m. This event will provide an "in situ" viewing of artworks collected by Mr. David Bell and/or provided by Caos on F. A demonstration of hand painting on silk by our featured artist Tsolmon Damba will occur at our Fabric Factory at 3:00 p.m. The location for Saturday's event is Bell Architects, 1228 9th ST, NW and the adjacent Caos on Fabric Factory at 1228 Blagdon Alley, NW.
